“Music is the universal language – it brings people closer together” -- Ella Fitzgerald

RJ Marshall is a songwriter and musician from England who makes blues, rock & roll, and American roots (Americana) music.

He has played music from an early age, and recorded his first song aged 15. He started playing live ‘seriously’ in 2008, in Brighton (UK), before going on to tour the United States, where he performed in New York, Nashville, and in New Orleans at the annual Gram Parsons birthday tribute on November 6, 2008.

Subsequently, RJ was on the road extensively, alighting frequently in Cambodia, where he became an established figure on the music scene in Phnom Penh. From 2012 to 2019, he organised and hosted a weekly musicians’ and songwriters’ open mic. He was the co-owner of a music venue, Show Box, which supported local Khmer bands and showcased artists from all over the world. He was a founding member of Dirty Blues band Phnom Skor – appearing at the Golden Street Festival in 2017 and Diamond Moon Festival in 2019. He was lead singer in psychedelic rock cover band Psychesonica, played guitar in the Oasis tribute band Osmosis, and later formed a jazz blues duo, Simmer. Throughout this time, RJ also gigged ‘as himself’, and made musical forays into Thailand as well as Vietnam – to Danang and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).

RJ returned to Brighton numerous times, performed live and recorded in Goa, and also played shows on various occasions in Stockholm (Sweden).

Family considerations brought RJ to Bulgaria for the first time in 2020, and since then he has divided his time mostly between the UK, Sweden and Bulgaria.

Following the forthcoming release of his debut album “1042 Express” in 2024, RJ will be working on new material and lining up some tour/gig dates. He has tentative plans to revisit the U.S. in 2025.

A downloadable “electronic press kit” (EPK) is in the pipeline – contact us for more details.

RJ Marshall is a member of ASCAP.
